Differ from stereotype of ideas which Taiwanese students may have about what language institute teaching methods are like, large lecturing classes and dull, Dr. Chih has challenged them in various aspects.

 

Since the number of the students is not quite large, Dr. Chih encourages students to take turn in answering the question. This is a way which students appreciate the most, and the reason is that teacher can know better of what questions or problems that different student may have, so as to help correct differently.

 

Also, the interaction between the teacher and students makes the in class atmosphere more active, students not only have an alternate chance to practice English speaking, but also it provides them the brainstorming opportunities in which students learn to think and make responses in a short period of time.

 

The content of the class helps students in acquiring English language skills effectively. In the aspect of grammatical teaching, tactics are taught to identify and deconstruct the structure that is more complicated to non-native English speaker. Dr. Chih would first point out the constant errors which are committed by the Chinese students in learning English, and he then explains about the correct grammar. Instead of having the students memorizing the whole sentence, learning become easier with a clear explanation. Once the students understand their blind spot, they are more aware of committing the mistakes again. Students' improvement in their grammatical skill will also helps with the writing skill. 

 

In the section of enlarging vocabulary, Dr. Chih has designed different topics to help students in acquiring vocabulary according to topics such as culture, time, festival, music, and so forth. Students in Taiwan not only are able to translate certain Chinese cultural terms into English, but also gain a better understanding in different topics. Dr. Chili successfully enriches students' vocabulary and helps them manage it practicably in the writing and speaking content. As for training student's listening skill, students not only get to practice in class,but between breaks when English conversation is being broadcasted. Students are submerged in an environment where they can familiarize with English that is spoken with British accent. Besides, little tips are given by Dr. Chih in assisting students to distinguish the difference between English English and American English.

 

In the reading section, Tactics of effective reading such as targeting the topic sentence, main idea and so forth has help students to read efficiently and effectively. Also, students are provided with reading material weekly which helps students in training their reading skill. As for the speaking section, in preparation for the tests, students are given a limited time to talk about certain topics. With the training, students not only have improved their skills but also become familiarize and fluent for the test.

 

These different sections of training are bounded together and influent one another. With the systematic,encouraging and active teaching methods, Dr. Chih not only has made the IELTS test less frightening and more manageable for students, but also he has helped level up student's English abilities in preparation for their advance studies in graduate school. Very often, students are shown the examples of good usage of English and the best one. From this perspective, Dr. Chih has demonstrated the attitude of striving for the best, and this encourages students' ambition to take a step further in their studies. Being in the atmosphere that is full of encouragement, Dr. Chih has inspired students' positive and active learning attitude which is of all the most important in the path of learning.
